The past 15 months have been an interesting time for the mighty fanbase of Blizzard. With the announcements of Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and Wrath of the Lich King it seems that everyone has something to look forward to and be excited about.
But one of the most interesting topics of discussion is that of Blizzard’s plans for what they refer to as Battle.net 2.0
With such a large community and millions of players spread across each of their major franchises, Blizzard has decided that one of their best actions they could take would be to create a networking tool that would help bring all of these players together and provide them with a wide array of great new features and resources.
While alot of information regarding Blizzard 2.0 is still under wraps, some of the new features that we know about are…
1. A chat interface that will allow players to communicate with each other while they are playing seperate games. It can be accessed in-game for any Blizzard title.
2. A wide variety of achievements that will be added to all Blizzard games along with improved stat-tracking. Your stats and achievements will be recorded to your account and displayed on your profile for all to see.
3. Friends/Ignore lists and clan support, both with advanced management options.
And many more things such as automated tournaments, improved matchmaking that will be secured against cheating, avatars and other ways to represent yourself, and so on.
Those of you who are familiar with Steam probably know what to expect with this new version of B-net. Exciting? Yes, I’d say so and with Blizzcon 2008 on the horizon and much more information to come I would also say that it is a great time to be a Blizzard fan.
What are some features that YOU would like to see added to Battle.net 2.0? Discuss in our forums!
